Bomb dogs - but why?

• In recent years, explosive devices have emerged as the weapon of choice for terrorists and terrorirst activity continues unabated throughout the world.

• The use of explosive detection dog teams has proved to be one of the most effective and efficient means for detecting potential threats as well as providing a highly visible deterrent to a terrorist attack.

• Bomb attacks occur abrupt and without pre-notice.

• Technical detecting machines are expensive but nevertheless not effective as well trained canines.

• Bomb dogs can be used in a "dual-use" mode (patrol and detector dog) and do not increase budgets or cost factors.

• Dog teams are faster for deployment.

• Dog teams are easier to handle and maintain as high-tech computers

• Explosive detection dogs are terrorists worst enemies but remain "the man's best friend"!
